What is a DOI?

A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a permanent identifier given to an electronic document on the web; a kind of signpost which will always point to the document irrespective of the document’s location. It is a useful tool for increasing the visibility of your ETD on the web.

A DOI will look something like this: 10.1000/182
